Ex 05 & 06 | Dust
Installation, inspection and maintenance of Ex electrical equipment where dust is present
Why Ex A Matters
In the CompEx Certification scheme, Ex 05 and Ex 06 focus on safety in dust hazardous areas, ensuring proper installation and maintenance as per IEC 60079-14 and IEC 60079-17. They are critical because combustible dust poses significant explosion risks if not properly managed.
Course Overview
Course Overview
Designed for electrical and instrumentation personnel working in dust-hazardous environments, this qualification addresses the risks associated with combustible dust, fibres, and flyings.
Participants will develop the essential knowledge and practical skills to safely install, inspect, and maintain Ex equipment, ensuring compliance and operational safety in dust-prone areas.
What You'll Learn
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion, candidates will demonstrate:
Theoretical Understanding
- Understanding of relevant IEC standards, directives, national regulations, and guidance for hazardous areas involving explosive dust atmospheres
- Knowledge of hazardous area classification for combustible dust, including how dust properties influence zone classification and extent
- Awareness of protection concepts for both non-intrinsically safe and intrinsically safe equipment
- Understanding of Ex certification, equipment marking, and key protection methods such as Ex ‘t’, Ex ‘i’, and other applicable techniques
Practical Competence
- Ability to select and install non-intrinsically safe and intrinsically safe equipment in accordance with IEC standards
- Competence in carrying out inspection and maintenance using IEC-compliant inspection tables and procedures
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and test results accurately
- Ensuring compliance with safety requirements across installation, inspection, and maintenance activities, including effective fault identification and reporting
